What is H2Ohio?
H2Ohio is Governor Mike DeWine’s comprehensive, data-driven water quality plan to reduce harmful algal blooms, improve wastewater infrastructure, and prevent lead contamination. Ohio Department of Agriculture's H2Ohio program provides cost-share funding for farmers to implement proven, science-based best management practices (BMPs), and is leading the effort in minimizing agriculture loss of nutrients from farm fields. Local SWCDs will work with producers to develop a plan to determine what practices will meet the goals and needs of their farm. Contact our office if you'd like to find out more!
The intent of this page is to provide useful links and resources to the farmers of Wood County who are currently participating in the H2Ohio Program. If you would like more information about the H2Ohio Initiative, please visit h2.ohio.gov

H2Ohio's Working Lands Buffer Program offers a 2-year contract with a $200/ac annual incentivize for producers to enroll cropland prone to flooding and erosion along ditches and waterways. Buffers will be 20-300ft wide and planted to a warm or cool season grass, or a forage mix. Harvesting of the forage is encouraged to help remove nutrients. Links to the practice overview, practice standard, and contracts are below the image.
Enrollment closed April 15, 2024.

Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative (OACI)
OACI is a collaboration of Ohio agricultural organizations along with Conservation, academia, and environmental groups. The goal of OACI's Farmer Certification is to improve soil health, yield and cost-efficiency, and deliver cost savings for farmers through practical, workable soil health solutions.
As part of the partnership between H2Ohio and OACI, farmers participating in the H2Ohio program must also participate and enroll in OACI. All H2Ohio producers completed the Farmer Profile prior to March 31, 2021. The next step is to complete the OACI Certification. This must be completed before any 2022 or 2023 H2Ohio Practice payments can be made.
